September Fun

September Fun
The students have been working hard and I am proud of them! We have been focusing on number and letter formation, letter sounds, counting and patterning all week long.  Last week we focused on the letter Aa. The kids seemed to LOVE making alligator puppets. We made our alligators eat things that began with A. We also introduced our fourth sight word: is.  We sing this song everyday!

If you are looking for ways to practice at home, check out the DOG binder. Inside the binder you will find tools to help you study at home. You could choose 2-3 sight words to focus on each week, go through each letter and letter sound and practice counting by 1s. You can also help your child practice writing his/her name using lower case letters except for the first letter.  In the future, I will be sending home reading books and sight word flashcards.

Just a reminder, the green folders are due on Tuesday. Please return them empty. Anything that needs to be returned should be in the communication binder.  Library books are also due on Tuesday. Thank you!

Here are some of the other great activities we have been working on...
I can make AB patterns!

Working on one-to-one correspondence.

Exploring Pattern Blocks!

Our newest center: Domino Parking Lot! The kids count the dots on each domino and then find the number on the parking lot sheet.

Building letters!

We read the book Ten Apples up on Top! We drew pictures of ourselves and used bingo stamper to add apples "up on top". I will be taking the papers and making a class book out of them.

Counting by touch activity: Each student had a partner. One person had to count how many times their partner tapped them on the back just by feeling the taps.
New student alert! Welcome to our class! We are so happy that you are here.

Week 1

Week 1

I have really enjoyed getting to know each child. The children have been adjusting well to the change.  Everyone has been happy and involved in the exciting activities that I have had planned for them.  This week, we focused mainly on school rules, classroom procedures and getting to know each other.  We worked on behaviors such as raising our hand before we speak, being kind, listening to the teacher, walking in a line and proper restroom behavior. We will continue with the same focus of behavior, rules and procedures next week.  Here is a look at some of the fun activities from the week.
We learned how to play with and clean up each center. The Block Center was very popular!

Kitchen Center!

Making new friends!

We read the story Rainbow Fish and talked about how the fish learned to be a good friend.  We made a craft to go along with it.

Working on our rainbow fish!

Working hard and having fun!

We read a book called Everyone is Special! We looked in a mirror to see the MOST special person of all! We also made a craft to go along with this lesson.

We hung our fish in the hallway.

Art Center!

We started to learn about the letters in our name. We traced our names with beans.

We talked about our families. We drew a family picture to take home!

We read the book, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom! Then, we found the letters in our name and added them to our Chicka Chicka Boom Boom trees!
Check back soon for more pictures and information. Please remember to put a note about transportation in your child's binder.  I need to be able to know how to send them home.  Also, please bring a snack for your child everyday. Please discuss the difference between lunch and snack time with your child. Also, I am having voice mail issues with my phone. It should be fixed by next week. I can't wait to see my students grow this year. TOGETHER we will have a great year! Thank  you!
