What to tell your kids...

Jon White sent this to all of the teachers at BPS. I thought that I would share this with you.

What to tell your kids...

Dec. 17th

It’s hard to believe that this is the last week before our Winter break.  This week, we are working on the letter Y. We work on naming the letter, the sound it makes, and handwriting. I won’t be adding any new sight words this week, however we will be reviewing all of our previously learned sight words.  I have some fun math activities planned this week such as snowball measurement and making patterned bracelets.  I will try to keep Monday- Wednesday as normal as possible. Thursday and Friday will be full of Holiday fun! Don’t forget that Our Holiday Party is Thursday at 2:00. Our book swap is Friday along with PJ/ Movie day. We plan on watching the Polar Express! I absolutely love my job. Teaching your child is my pleasure. I have grown to love each and every single one of my students. I thank you for being such involved parents! Have a Happy Holiday and a Merry Christmas!
Our room is a bit more festive this time of year:)

December Update!

December Update!
The Kindergarteners have been working very hard! We have been reviewing many math concepts. We have begun to solve simple addition and story problems.  I will be introducing simple subtraction soon! In Science, we have been learning about Earth. The kids have had a chance to interact with real fossils and they LOVED it! We have talked about what the Earth is made up of and how  we can  care for our Earth. We continue to work on letters, letter sounds, letter formation, sight words, rhyming and blending sounds every day. They kids love reading simple texts. I’ll be sending some of our old mini books home very soon.
I hope your child has told you about our “Elf on the Shelf.” It really brings out the kids imagination! The children names our elf Lollie Pop.Every morning the elf is found doing another silly thing in our class. The elf has been found fishing, reading and writing us messages. The children have been writing about the elf. Our writing is coming a long way! Keep reading and writing at home!
Report cards go home this Monday, December 10th.

Nov.10 update!

It’s hard to believe that Thanksgiving is right around the corner! We have accomplished so much!  The letters that we have studied are F,M,B,S,D,A,J,P,H. However, we do many songs and activities that include all of the letters. The sight words that we have covered are as follows: A, I, see, the, this, is, me, our, here, big, can, no, to, play, we, go, little, and up as well as all of the color words.
This week we are covering letter C and sight words you and goes. The following week is only two days and so it will be a review week.
The kids are now rhyming and reading simple text with the help of pictures. This week, I will focus on learning what a question is and how to ask a question. We will keep work on all of the strategies that make a good reader! We are finishing up our unit on the 5 senses and moving on to learning about our Earth! I will be assessing the children all week in order to have the most up to date data for our conferences.
Take a look at some of the other activities that we have been doing!
We practice forming shapes and numbers with play dough.
