Teaching and Learning in Jan/Feb.



Exploring Earth materials as part of our Science unit.

We have missed a lot of school due to weather conditions. Everyday that I have with the kids is precious and we have been working on a lot of skills!

What have we been focusing on?

Writing-
Choosing a topic independently
Writing the sounds we hear (stretching out words independently)
Spaces
Capitals/lowercase letters in the appropriate places
Punctuation
Giving more detail in writing
Writing more than on sentence

Reading-
Reading more complex text
Learning the SH, TH, WH, CH sounds
Blending/ segmenting words
Sight words: come, for, me, am, at, said, look, this, you
Fluency
Chunking words
Letters/sounds
Rhyming
Summarizing
Making Connections and predictions
Concepts of Print
Author, illustrator, setting, main characters, problem, solution...

Math-
1-to-1 correspondence to 30
Counting to 100
Number ID
Counting by 10’s and 5’s
Finding different ways to make 10
Interpreting a graph (How many more red than green?)
Addition to 10
Subtraction with numbers 1-10
Patterning (AAB)
Working with 10's frames
Base ten blocks (coming soon)


Social Studies/Science-
Groundhogs Day
Earth
Teeth
